We see the leaves of trees lose their green colouring and eventually fall off during the autumn months. The reason is not only the cold but also other factors like daylight.

Trees have their own clock, which is activated by the amount daylight it receives. During the autumn days the daylight is of short duration and as the daylight reduces, trees slowly reduce the production of chlorophyll until it stops. We can see that in the colourful Pigmentation of the leaves to the autumn colours.
